SLE Weekly 5.5

Goblin Army on the Rise

In the world of competitive League of Legends, new talents often emerge from unexpected places, and this split, the spotlight is shining brightly on the Greasy Goblins. With a remarkable 6-0 performance in their showmatches leading up to the season, the Goblins have taken the league by storm and are rapidly becoming a team to watch out for.

We had the privilege of sitting down with Djungle Buddha, better known as Panini, the team's jungler, to gain some insights into their astounding success and their journey in the SLE.

Setting Realistic Goals

When asked about the team's goals for this split, Panini emphasized their initial modest expectations. "We initially started with the goal of becoming a middle-of-the-pack team," he explained. "But I think we’ll set our sights on the top 25% and reaching playoffs as goals for this split."

It's clear that the Goblins are keen on continuous improvement and are approaching the season with a focus on refining their game. With four rookies on their roster, they recognize the importance of nurturing a supportive environment and working on their teamwork.

From Frustration to Fun

Panini also touched on the stark difference between this split and the previous one. Last split, when he was playing on Good Chi Gaming, the team faced a multitude of issues, including a lack of practice, low morale, and roster swaps. These challenges led to a frustrating and negative atmosphere that negatively impacted their performance.

This time around, the Goblins have turned things around by prioritizing team camaraderie and enjoying the game together. The positive atmosphere has breathed new life into the team, leading to their impressive showmatch victories.

The Eclectic Goblin Roster

As Panini delved into the lore of his team, he painted a colorful picture of the players that make up the Greasy Goblins. From their top laner's penchant for unconventional picks like AP Yi to their mid laner's occasional forays into Dota 2, the Goblins bring a mix of personalities and playstyles to the league.

Their bot lane, comprised of former solo laners turned AD carry and support, has been a pleasant surprise for the team. Their adaptability and competence in a new role have added an extra layer of depth to the Goblins' gameplay.

Anticipating Exciting Matchups

When it comes to facing other teams, Panini revealed their excitement about taking on a variety of competitors. They're particularly eager to go up against teams like Wacky Wraiths X and Y, Snek Pack SNC, Vitagen, and Good Chi, each for their own unique reasons. These matchups promise exciting clashes of styles and strategies.

Addressing Eligibility Concerns

The interview also touched on some recent concerns about their top laner's eligibility. Panini clarified that these accusations had been thoroughly investigated and proven false. He expressed the team's commitment to fair play and sportsmanship and hoped that the incident could be put behind them.

Expectations for the SLE Split 5

Looking ahead to the upcoming split, Panini shared his enthusiasm for what promises to be an action-packed season. He acknowledged the heightened level of competition and the absence of clear favorites, making this split one of the most competitive in recent memory.

As fans eagerly await the start of the regular season, the Greasy Goblins' journey will undoubtedly be one of the most compelling storylines to follow. With their newfound positivity, growing synergy, and a hint of unpredictability, they may just be the dark horse of the SLE Split 5.

Stay tuned, SLE fans, because the Goblins are poised to leave their mark on the league, one greasy play at a time.

The Greek Ambition

As the SLE Split 5 kicks off, one of the most intriguing new teams to grace the league is Project Imperior (PI). Hailing from the EUNE (East & Nordic East) server, PI is an all-Greek team that brings a fresh dynamic to the competition.

We had the privilege of chatting with PI Adamo to discuss their ambitions in the SLE, the motivation they draw from being the only Greek team, server stereotypes, standout players, and their readiness to take on any opponent.

Aiming for Dominance in SLE

When asked about their ambitions in the SLE, Adamo spoke confidently of their desire to establish themselves as a dominant force in the league. "Our ambition in the SLE is to become a dominant force, showcasing our skill and teamwork for consistent success," he declared. PI's goals are clear—to make their presence known through formidable gameplay.

Representing Greece: A Special Motivation

Being the sole Greek representative in the SLE imbues PI with a unique sense of motivation. Adamo expressed their enthusiasm, comparing it to the energy of Greece's historic 2004 Euro-winning team. "Oh, absolutely! It’s like we’re channeling that 2004 Euro-winning energy in the gaming universe. We’re all about repping Greece and owning the esports scene!"

Server Stereotypes: EUW vs. EUNE

The debate over the superiority of the EUW (Europe West) server compared to the EUNE server is a longstanding one. However, Adamo provided a balanced perspective, emphasizing that success isn't solely determined by the server. "Both servers have strengths and challenges, while some players have preferences, the server choice doesn’t necessarily determine success; it’s more about player and team performance."

No Single Standout Player

One of the intriguing aspects of PI is their balanced roster, where each player contributes their unique strengths. When asked about a standout player, Adamo noted the difficulty of singling out one individual. "Each player on our team brings unique strengths and contributions, making it challenging to single out one standout player." This diversity could be one of PI's key assets as they face the competition.

Ready for Any Challenge

As they embark on their SLE journey, PI remains undaunted by any opponent. Adamo asserted, "We’re fired up to go head-to-head with whoever stands in our way. Bring on the competition!" Their readiness to face any challenge highlights their determination to make a mark in the league.

Project Imperior's entry into the SLE adds an exciting new dimension to the league. With ambitions of dominance, a strong sense of national pride, and a diverse roster, they are a team to watch closely as they seek to carve their place in the competitive landscape of Split 5. Greece, known for its rich history, can now look forward to a promising esports future thanks to the ambitions of Project Imperior.

Quantify - An Org enters the SLE

Quantify, a new entrant into the SLE, is a team that recently underwent a significant overhaul of their roster after a tough showmatch loss against the Greasy Goblins.

We sat down with Fawx, the owner of Quantify, to discuss the reasoning behind this drastic change, the origins of the organization, and their ambitious goals for the upcoming SLE Split 5.

A Shift in Roster Dynamics

The decision to swap out the entire roster came as a result of a series of challenges Quantify faced in building their team. Fawx shared, "The TLDR is that we'd had a very slow, frustrating period of tryouts building the team, and things weren't quite working. We'd hoped that time would fix that, but the bad show-match loss, along with some burnout from 6-8 weeks of continuous tryouts meant that we had 4 players and a coach all want to step down rather than push into the split."

While the decision to revamp the roster might appear bold, it reflects the organization's dedication to performing at the highest level and delivering a strong representation in their debut SLE split.

Quantify's Origins and Growth

Quantify, although relatively new to the competitive League of Legends scene, has quickly gained traction. Fawx elaborated on the organization's beginnings, saying, "Quantify is a pretty new organization. I started it in January, running a gold elo team in VL's division 3. Its been a big growth curve as the year has gone on."

Quantify's growth extends beyond their competitive teams. With over 300 active members in their community, the organization has nurtured a thriving environment that goes beyond the Summoner's Rift. Monthly 1v1 tournaments, custom in-house games, and the Quantify Cup—an 8-team double-elimination tournament—are just some of the community-driven activities that bring members together.

Ambitious Goals for Split 5

When asked about their ambitions for the upcoming split, Fawx's response was unequivocal: "We are playing to win." However, he also acknowledged the challenge of gauging the competition in the SLE. "The more complex answer is that we don't really have a clear picture of the level of play that exists in SLE yet."

While their primary goal is to secure a playoff spot, Fawx expressed an optimistic outlook: "Anything short of a decent playoff run would be disappointing, and optimistically I'd love to see us win a semifinal."

The Strength of Synergy

Quantify's unique strength lies in the synergy built among their players over several years of collaboration. Fawx noted, "The interesting thing about the team is that 4 of them have been playing together for multiple years, so I think our strongest asset is the synergy that has been built up over dozens, if not hundreds of games together."

As Quantify embarks on this new chapter with a revamped roster, they bring a combination of experience and ambition that could make them a formidable contender in the SLE Split 5. Their dedication to improvement, commitment to community building, and their desire to achieve excellence make them an exciting team to watch in the coming season.
