The Good Chi War
The story of Good Chi Gaming is one filled with camaraderie, triumphs, and lessons learned. At the heart of this journey lies Sovonix, former MVP and two-time SLE champion, who also serves as the owner of Good Chi. In an exclusive interview, Sovonix provides insights into the history, success, and challenges faced by the team.
Part 1: Good Chi Gaming
A Humble Beginning
Good Chi Gaming's journey in the SLE began during Split 2. Their entry into the league was not only a strategic move but also a testament to their ambition. Sovonix explains that the team was initially part of an existing squad, with the midlaner Zedorzo—now a member of Interstellar—being one of their predecessors. Their captain, Savage, was on the lookout for a league to join, leading to Good Chi's entrance into the SLE. The team initially served as the academy team for CCG, and it wasn't long before they set their sights on Division 1.
Friendship and Trust: The Key to Success
Good Chi Gaming's most remarkable achievement is the consecutive titles they secured in Split 2 and Split 3, with an additional regular-season title in the mix. Sovonix attributes their success to a unique blend of friendship, camaraderie, and not taking themselves too seriously. While he acknowledges that their rosters didn't always have the best individual players in the league, there was an underlying level of trust that bonded the team's core. This trust allowed them to function as a unit and propelled them to success. Sovonix fondly recalls moments when Savage, the team captain, would bolster his confidence and emphasize belief in his abilities, even when faced with individual differences. This unwavering support from teammates made a substantial difference and is a testament to the power of trust within a team.
Venturing Beyond the SLE
While their SLE journey was the cornerstone of their competitive presence, Good Chi Gaming also ventured into other tournaments and leagues. They participated in the Manta Cup, where they managed to secure a top-four finish. Despite being a team with a peak ranking of Diamond 2, they earned respect from master-level teams. This experience further solidified their camaraderie and determination, which they would carry with them into future endeavors.
The Fall and Lessons Learned
The legacy of Good Chi Gaming, however, experienced a decline in Split 4. Sovonix admits that the downfall was attributed to a subpar offseason and, most crucially, his own shortcomings in leadership. He reflects on the challenges he faced during this time, confessing that he failed to strike a balance between fostering a winning environment and maintaining the strong friendships within the team. This internal struggle led to a mindset where the team played without a clear purpose, failing to make the necessary roster changes promptly. Despite the potential and talent within the squad, they couldn't reach their full potential, largely due to insufficient practice time.

Part 2: Split 5 & the Road to the Derby
Resignation and Reasons
Sovonix's decision to resign as a player came as a surprise to many, especially given his remarkable success in the SLE. He sheds light on the multifaceted reasons behind this significant move. The primary source of his frustration was the unexpected losses Good Chi Gaming faced during Split 4. These losses, particularly those from commanding positions, left Sovonix baffled and frustrated. He points to a specific game against KAA, where a game that should have been won turned into a loss after a questionable engagement. The frustration from such incidents weighed heavily on him.
Furthermore, Sovonix mentions feeling disrespected by certain members of the SLE community during Split 4. He recalls a time when mutual respect and recognition among players were more prevalent. However, in Split 4, he experienced public criticism even after impressive performances, which deeply affected him. In essence, the growing hostility within the community and the challenges of leading a team led him to step back from his player role.
Formation of Two Teams
Sovonix shares that the initial plan was not necessarily to re-enter the league with two new teams. The primary motivation was to create more content and facilitate community growth. The experiment aimed to see how effectively they could manage two teams and to promote unity within the community. This decision was driven by a desire to juggle the responsibilities of two teams simultaneously and nurture a stronger, more interconnected community.
Building the Two Teams
Sovonix elaborates on the meticulous process of building the two teams. Rather than selecting players based solely on individual skills or achievements, the emphasis was on their interactions with others. The criterion included observing players like Zench and Revilo, who displayed camaraderie and positive vibes. Such interactions became a defining metric for selecting players, harkening back to the spirit of their earlier glory days.
Notably, the selection process did not rely on key players as a foundation. Even the highly regarded master of chi, flay2day, did not receive an automatic spot on the roster. Instead, every player had to prove themselves through their performance while maintaining a non-toxic attitude. The enigmatic "vibe" a player exuded became a critical factor, which, while challenging to explain, played a significant role in their selection.
The Journey of Both Teams
Sovonix's outlook on the performance of Good Chi Gaming's two teams differs from what outsiders may perceive. To him, they have had their highs and lows, but he doesn't consider it a rough Split. The primary focus is on the effort and the journey, rather than the sole pursuit of victories. Each player in both teams has been communicated the idea that this is just phase one of a grander vision.
While the players may be tough on themselves, Sovonix encourages them to savor these moments. He reflects on his past behavior and admits to not being the best teammate to Rengo during Split 3, expressing his regret for not fully appreciating and supporting his fellow players. His message to the teams is to cease the fault-finding and trust each other as he should have done during his tenure.
What Changed After the First Weeks
Naturally, as the players spent more time together, they became more attuned to each other's flaws. Sovonix uses Obsidian as an example, emphasizing his behind-the-scenes contributions. While Obsidian's aggressive jungling style may draw criticism, his role in the team's comms and calls is undeniable. Sovonix suggests that the team may have overlooked Obsidian's value and should take the time to appreciate and understand each other better. Similar dynamics in Good Chi Yang, characterized by excessive nitpicking of mistakes, have affected the teams' cohesion.
The Vitagen Setback
The setback against Vitagen was a clear turning point. Sovonix believes that Vitagen simply wanted the victory more than Good Chi Yin. Vitagen's superior preparation, more disciplined play, and better draft showed their commitment to winning. Obsidian's absence also played a significant role, as his leadership and assertive playstyle were crucial to Good Chi Yin's fearless and aggressive approach.
Despite the loss, Sovonix remains unwavering in his belief that the teams will rebound with full force. He underscores the importance of unity and improved teamwork, urging players and coaches to focus on internal collaboration and eliminate self-criticism. Sovonix's vision for both teams remains intact: that when these changes occur, both Good Chi teams will be unstoppable in their pursuit of glory in the SLE.

Part 3: The War of Good Chi Gaming
Key Players to Watch
Sovonix takes an unconventional route when asked about key players, instead focusing on the coaches, Kaptenen and Aze, who play pivotal roles for their respective teams.
For Good Chi Yin, Aze's game knowledge and drafting prowess come under the spotlight. Aze's ability to craft effective drafts and prepare individual players for success is deemed crucial. The absence of Aze on game days has often correlated with less favorable outcomes for Yin.
On the Good Chi Yang side, the arrival of coach Kaptenen has marked a significant upturn in performance. As an SLE champion and a respected figure in the league, Kaptenen's experience and dedication to the roster are highlighted.
Sovonix acknowledges the strengths and weaknesses of both coaches, underscoring the significance of how they set up their rosters for success in this pivotal matchup.
Playoff Preferences
When contemplating potential playoff matchups, Sovonix expresses a desire for a rematch against Vitagen. He remains puzzled by the series loss to Vitagen, especially since it was his Yin squad that suffered this defeat.
While open to facing all teams in the playoffs, Sovonix emphasizes the belief that to be the best, one must prove their mettle against the best.
Sharing the SLE Victory Percentage
In response to a hypothetical scenario where a 100% chance of winning the SLE needed to be shared among all league teams, Sovonix offers an intriguing distribution:
- 25% for Good Chi Yin, showing his bias towards his own team.
- 25% for Good Chi Yang, as both Chi teams deserve an equal share in this hypothetical victory.
- 25% for Vitagen, acknowledging their capacity to win and the experience of their players.
- 25% for Reval Lynx, a team that Sovonix believes is exceptionally skilled and deserves more respect, especially from Teams that weren't able to win against them.
Good Chi's Plans for Split 6
The future of Good Chi in Split 6 remains uncertain. Initially, Sovonix contemplated Chi's departure from the SLE due to feelings of isolation and disrespect from certain moderators. However, after constructive discussions with Linus, that revealed that some moderators gave Linus the worst advice, which was to ignore Good Chi, the situation improved. While not yet ready to confirm Chi's continued presence in the league, Sovonix hints at exploring opportunities in regional leagues to establish Chi's presence in the amateur scene.
A Parting Message
In conclusion, Sovonix takes a moment to express his gratitude to those who have supported him and understood his perspective. He acknowledges that he can be a polarizing figure in the scene but reiterates that his dedication lies in serving his players and fostering a community for them. He aims to protect and uplift those he cares about, even if it means facing opposition. The interview ends with this powerful statement from Sovonix.
With these insights from Sovonix, the stage is set for the Good Chi Yin vs. Good Chi Yang match, a clash that carries a rich history, high stakes, and a quest for supremacy within the Good Chi organization.

Lead Producer Pepparkakor
In the ever-evolving world of esports, the production team plays a crucial role in bringing the action to fans across the globe. Among the many talented individuals contributing their skills to the esports landscape, Pepparkakor has emerged as a standout producer for the SLE. We had the privilege of sitting down with Pepparkakor to discuss his journey into the world of SLE production, his experience in the league, and his thoughts on the future of SLE.
A Journey into SLE Production
Pepparkakor joined the SLE as a producer in Split 4, seeking an opportunity to make his mark in the competitive League of Legends scene. The league's structure allowed for flexibility in producing games, which was an appealing aspect for him. "This league is a good opportunity for any producer wanting to start out," he shared. "There are so many games to cover, and if you can't cover them all, the staff and admins of the league are really chill, so you can be really flexible. And of course, the games are always super fun to watch."
One of the things that sets SLE apart from other leagues, in Pepparkakor's view, is the sense of community. "I think a big part is the community," he emphasized. "There are always people active, and in so many ways. From the 'degens' in general chat, the hardcore in-house players, to the active caster/producer chats where you can learn a lot. Having this flexibility in the league and being able to interact in so many ways while still making it feel so close makes it a lot of fun to be a part of."
Tips for Aspiring Producers
For those who aspire to follow in Pepparkakor's footsteps and delve into the world of production, he offers some valuable advice. "Just try things," he encourages. "For me, I started in the beginning of the year, being completely new. I began with observing random professional solo queue games to get in the habit of observing. Then I moved on to find smaller leagues to start getting to know OBS."
His rule of thumb? Always be willing to try new things. "It doesn't matter how new or experienced you are," he insists. "Just have the motivation to try new things always. Do everything in a different way and then reflect on how it went, and I think most things are doable."
The Future of SLE and Pepparkakor
As the Split 5 of the SLE approaches its climax, Pepparkakor's focus remains firmly on the current season. When asked about his plans for Split 6, he candidly admits that the future is uncertain but full of possibilities. "For me, I am always looking for opportunities to get to the upper echelon of competitive esports," he shares. "If I am still here for Split 6, I want to keep on evolving the league from a production point of view. I want to get into more plugins for OBS to increase the viewing experience, like stats and end-game information."
The SLE Champion Prediction
When the topic shifts to the SLE champion for Split 5, Pepparkakor finds himself in a conundrum. "Wow, such a hard question," he exclaims. "Apart from Split 4, I don't think we have a clear top four-ish teams. I think every team can make upsets if we go by Swiss rankings. But if I were to choose a team to win according to the last couple of weeks, I think Vitagen might take it two splits in a row. But honestly, I can make a point for every team winning this split."
As the production quality of SLE continues to reach new heights, with dedicated individuals like Pepparkakor at the helm, fans can anticipate an even more immersive and engaging experience in the future. In the world of esports, where every moment counts, producers like Pepparkakor play a pivotal role in ensuring that fans never miss a beat.

An Estonian Champion?
Reval Lynx is currently in a prime position to secure the SLE Regular Season title, and "No Info," the team's supporter in the second half of the season, has been interviewed to gain insights into the factors behind their success.
When asked about the main factor behind Reval Lynx's impressive performance, No Info highlights their strength in draft execution and game preparation. He credits their coach & multimillionaire, Che, for meticulous prep work and the team's ability to navigate the draft phase effectively. Recognizing the importance of strong drafting in league matches (and the additional motivation of big-money salaries), No Info believes that Reval Lynx excels in this area, making them one of the best-prepared teams in the league.
No Info shares his perspective on the upcoming matchup against Snek Pack, the reigning Regular Season Champion. He acknowledges that Snek Pack has shown strong gameplay this season but is confident that Reval Lynx is the favorite. No Info emphasizes that he doesn't consider past results when assessing teams, as the constantly evolving meta and shifting strategies can lead to different outcomes in different seasons. Nevertheless, Reval Lynx is fully committed to giving their best and securing the Regular Season title for the team.
No Info joined Reval Lynx during the season, and he explains that the change was motivated by complications related to certain gameplay details. His prior experience as a player and his existing relationships with some of Reval's members made him a natural choice when they sought different options to improve their gameplay. The decision to bring him into the team has worked out well for both parties.
The interviewer inquires about the origin of his in-game name, "No Info." No Info humorously reveals that the name doesn't have a particularly deep backstory. It was a pragmatic choice, stemming from his wide champion pool and playstyle. No Info wanted his name to reflect the fact that opponents facing him wouldn't have clear information on his preferred champions, thanks to his versatility in playing many different champions.
When discussing which teams he would like to face in the first two rounds of the single-elimination playoffs, No Info expresses a neutral stance. He believes that any team in the league is capable of taking games from or even eliminating the top 5 teams in a single-elimination format. However, he does mention two potential matchups that he finds intriguing. First, he'd welcome a showdown against the Greasy Goblins, as it would bring a touch of Nordic rivalry to the league. The Greasy Goblins are a full Swedish team, while Reval Lynx is composed entirely of Estonian players, adding an extra layer of excitement to the potential contest. Additionally, No Info suggests a matchup against Wacky Wraiths, highlighting the formidable bot lane duo of Buettner and LRat, which he believes could be a valuable learning experience for Reval Lynx's bot lane.

The Clash of Division 2 Champions
In the SLE, history is made with every Split, creating memorable rivalries and classic matchups. This week, we're about to witness one such classic showdown as Black Manta SNC and Primordials go head-to-head. While both teams share the honor of being the last two Division 2 winners, their paths have taken them on distinct journeys since their triumphs.
Split 3: Primordials Rise to Victory
In Split 3 of the SLE, Primordials rose to victory by clinching the Division 2 championship. They battled fiercely against NSG Nightingale for the title, ultimately emerging victorious. However, their subsequent appearance in the Play-Offs didn't go as planned, as they faced tough competition, resulting in a 0-2 loss to Good Chi Gaming and Eternal Blizzard.
Black Manta, on the other hand, had been competing in Division 1, finishing in 5th place during that split. They embarked on a remarkable journey in the Play-Offs. A miraculous six-match run took them all the way to the Split Finals, where they were narrowly eliminated by Good Chi Gaming, proving their mettle on the big stage.
Split 4: Black Manta's Dominance in Division 2
Split 4 saw Black Manta dominating Division 2, going undefeated in the Divisional Round. Their success continued into the Division 2 Play-Offs, where they took the crown. In Play-Offs, they overcame Wacky Wraiths. Their remarkable performance in Division 2 Play-Offs was a testament to their growth and improvement as a team. Unfortunately, they fell to CCG Muffins in the next stage of the Play-Offs, but the impact they had made was undeniable.
In contrast, Primordials remained in Division 1 during Split 4. Although they secured a 7th position, they couldn't replicate their success in Division 2. Their Play-Off journey was a short-lived one, ending with a 1-2 loss to White Tigers in the first round.
The Changes in Split 5
While Primordials have kept their roster intact for three consecutive splits, including the current one, Black Manta SNC has faced changes. The departure of two key players, LRAT and Linus, created significant shifts in the team dynamics. LRAT, widely recognized as the best support in the current SLE Split, and Linus, the number one pick of the SLE Draft and the Division 2 MVP, had been integral to the team's success. Black Manta's journey in Split 5 has been marked by adaptation and rebuilding, as they aim to secure a Play-Off spot in a highly competitive SLE landscape.
With a rich history between these two teams, their upcoming showdown is set to be an exciting and classic battle in the SLE. While Black Manta needs at least a draw to secure their place in the Play-Offs, Primordials have already been eliminated. Regardless of their current standings, the rivalry between these two teams guarantees a thrilling and closely contested match, showcasing the spirit of competition and sportsmanship in the SLE.

The Return of a Dominant Vitagen?
When asked if the dominant Vitagen is back, Jesseija remains cautious. He believes it's a bit early to make that claim definitively. However, he emphasizes that they have identified a playstyle that works well for them in the latest series. Their success moving forward will depend on how well they execute their drafts.
