SLE Weekly 5.17
Yin Crowned SLE Champions

In a climactic 5-game series, Good Chi Yin emerged as the champions of the SLE Split 5, securing their position among the greats in the competitive league. Following this momentous achievement, key members of the team, including Captain Wiggys and players Cheffer, Kim Jensen, JL, and Sench, along with Coach Aze, shared their thoughts on the victory and their plans for the future.

Wiggys: The Captain's Reflection

Wiggys, the team captain and support player for Good Chi Yin, expressed his elation at the triumph. Having followed the SLE for three splits, winning the championship was a dream come true for him. "Being among the greats feels amazing, and I feel comfortable moving on, having proven myself as one of the best," he stated.

However, Wiggys humbly acknowledged that his performance in the finals fell short, highlighting the team's ability to carry without his direct influence. Regarding the team's future, he shared that Good Chi Yin was created with the sole purpose of winning the SLE, and now that they have achieved that goal, the team plans to split up and explore new heights individually.

In terms of his personal future, Wiggys mentioned his completion of the SLE chapter and expressed an interest in playing in other leagues with higher rank caps, citing SOL (Swedish Online League) as a potential destination. He also expressed openness to remaining as a sub due to the engaging nature of the community.

When reflecting on support performances in the SLE, Wiggys praised King Valhyrr for actively engaging in skill-check matchups, showing respect for supports who didn't shy away from direct interactions.

Players' Plans and Acknowledgments

The other players were asked about their plans and the standout players in their respective roles during the split:

Cheffer:

  • Plans for SLE: Uncertain. Plans to chill until March and may not have time to grind League. Whether playing or not, he intends to follow the league.
  • Standout Player: Acknowledged that the mid-lane competition was diverse, praising Denzer but also highlighting a player, not named, who provided stiff competition when not trolling or 1st-timing champions.

Kim Jensen:

  • Plans for SLE: Considering retirement or potentially assisting Shiki in winning the SLE title. Undecided but leans toward supporting his teammate.
  • Standout Player: Recognized Denzer as a good mid-laner but cryptically referred to a player now perma-banned into the shadow realm, showcasing respect for strong competitors.

JL:

  • Plans for SLE: Considering playing in the next split, either as a sub or a starter.
  • Standout Player: Acknowledged Jonathan Isaac for intensive farming on Nocturne, but credited the success to his bot lane's stellar performance.

Sench:

  • Plans for SLE: With not being allowed to play again, Sench has no plans to participate in the SLE. However, he expressed an intention to stick around for events and community engagement.
  • Standout Player: Highlighted Ânt for presenting a challenging laning phase, especially with unconventional picks that punish mistakes.

Coach Aze: Nurturing Growth and Future Endeavors

Coach Aze, the mastermind behind Good Chi Yin's success, shared insights into player improvement and his coaching future:

  • Most Improved Player: Aze applauded everyone's growth but specifically highlighted Kim Jensen for transforming from unreliable but good into a consistent and great mid-laner. The improvement across the board, especially from Obsidian and Kim Jensen, positively surprised him.

  • Coaching Future: Aze hinted at continuing to coach individual players from different teams, expressing a willingness to work with those he likes or sees potential in. However, the prospect of coaching a full serious team may not materialize, with Aze entertaining the idea of forming a meme team with friends across the SLE.

In essence, Good Chi Yin's victory marks the culmination of dedication, growth, and teamwork. As the team disperses to explore new challenges individually, their legacy in the SLE remains a testament to their collective journey and triumph. The league bids farewell to a powerhouse while eagerly anticipating the emergence of new talents and narratives in future splits.

Grading Each Teams Split

The SLE Split 5 has concluded, leaving behind a tapestry of victories, defeats, and unforgettable moments. As we reflect on the split, it's time to dissect the performance of each team and assign grades that encapsulate their journey. Beyond the raw statistics, these grades take into account expectations, roster strength, and the twists and turns of the playoffs.

Our evaluation methodology combines two major components: Regular Season and Play-Offs. The Regular Season, accounting for 50% of the final grade, involves a meticulous analysis of total wins, expectations, and the team's standing. On the other hand, the Play-Offs section, contributing the remaining 50%, delves into the team's postseason journey, assessing their success in single-elimination matches while considering roster strength and schedule challenges.

Grading System Breakdown:

  1. Regular Season Finish (40%): Teams are graded based on their total number of wins. A high win count demonstrates consistency and dominance throughout the split.

  2. Regular Season Expectations (10%): This aspect considers how well a team performed relative to expectations, factoring in the strength of their roster and the challenges posed by their schedule.

  3. Play-Offs Finish (40%): The Play-Offs journey is a critical phase. Teams are evaluated based on how far they progressed and the number of victories they secured in single-elimination matches, irrespective of roster strength or schedule challenges.

  4. Play-Offs Expectations (10%): This dimension gauges a team's performance in the Play-Offs relative to expectations, considering the strength of their roster and the challenges posed by their schedule.

Additional Honors:

In addition to the grades, each team will be awarded a "Player of the Team" and a "Match of the Split." These accolades recognize individual excellence and memorable moments that left an indelible mark on the split.

As we embark on this evaluation, we celebrate the dedication and resilience of each team. The grades are not just numbers; they encapsulate the heart, strategy, and triumphs that defined the SLE Split 5. Let's delve into the assessments and celebrate the highs and lows of this competitive journey.

  • Expectations for Split 6: LRAT doesn't have specific expectations but hopes for the continuation of a smooth experience.

  • Staying in the SLE: LRAT's continuation as a player depends on the Elo Border that might be implemented.

Interview with the Mod Team

Itchighoti, a seasoned member of the mod team, offers valuable insights into the successes and challenges faced during the split. Having joined the mod team since the end of Split 4 and being an integral part of the SLE inhouse events, Itchi brings a unique perspective to the table.

1. Overview of Split 5: Successes and Challenges

Itchi views Split 5 positively, emphasizing the growth mindset adopted by the mod team. Notable successes include the successful facilitation of consistent stream production, particularly with the change in format to Swiss during the regular season. The shift led to more evenly matched games, heightening player and community engagement. Organizational improvements and clear guidelines contributed to a smoother experience, although communication challenges persist, common in volunteer-based community endeavors.

2. Plans for the Off-Split and Split 6

The mod team's plan for the off-split is clear: take a break to avoid burnout. Given that the team consists of volunteers, prioritizing mental well-being is crucial. Community events and casual interactions are expected to be the focus during this time. As for Split 6, Itchi anticipates a start in February or March 2024 after a period of reflection and feedback integration.

3. Changes to the Veterancy Rule

Regarding potential changes to the veterancy rule, Itchi mentions that nothing is decided yet. The mod team is open to player opinions and feedback, underscoring the collaborative nature of decision-making.

4. Entry Fee for Split 6

The question of an entry fee for Split 6 remains undecided. Itchi seeks community input on this matter, contemplating options like bringing back play-ins and exploring donation-based models.

5. Joining the Staff Team

Itchi encourages community members interested in contributing to consider becoming trial mods. Actively participating in discussions and offering insights on decisions can pave the way for involvement in the staff team.

6. Off-Split Engagement Opportunities

During the off-split, various engaging events are planned or suggested, ranging from tournaments like Mundo Dodgeball and Ultimate Bravery to casual inhouse games and social activities.

7. Final Thoughts on SLE and Its Community

As the SLE heads into the off-split period, community members can look forward to engaging events and a refreshed mod team ready to build on the successes of Split 5.

What now? - A Statement from Linus
Usually I use an AI-Tool (ChatGPT) to write the articles for me. Of Course, I still decide whats written, I still do the work behind it. But this Statement is something I want to be personal. So please forgive my mistakes both in grammar and spelling.

The Good

There have many good things about Split 5. The format was the best one so far in my opinion. Only 2 of 22 Teams dropped out, a really low number considering last split it was 8 of 20. We had a stream rate of over 70%, compared with ~40% in Split 4 and ~15% in Split 3. In general the Community Content was going crazy, with ~150 People reading the Articles or watching the Power Rankings. I've gotten loads of positive feedback and nice comments, which always make me wanna create more. The Split was more evenly matched than ever before. Many Matches in Regular Season and Play-Offs were heavily contested. In General this was the best Split in the SLE so far!

The Bad

There were also some things we can and have to improve on. For one there was the ''Modtagen'' Situation in Weeks 4-6, which made us restructure the Staff Team and implement Captains Votes on Mid-Split Rule Changes. Also, there has been some short communication on Streams. Some Matches went unstreamed, even with a possible Community stream, due to the Streams being announced really short before the Match itself. We will work on that, though its not always possible with the way scheduling works. Lastly, Content Creation went down in Play-Offs, even though it should go up in Play-Offs. From my side it was partially due to other Projects i had to spent time on (Mainly the Manta Cup) but also things that took time in my private life. On the other side, the lack of different content creators made the void left when I didn't create anything really apparent. We encourage everyone in the community who is interested in creating content to do so / communicate with us about it so we can help you.

The Ugly

There were also things beyond ''bad stuff''. On one hand there was an increase in toxicity and general negative sentiment between some players and teams compared to the past Splits. Everyone who has played in the SLE before Split 5 and partially Split 4 remembers how close and friendly the community was. Then there was certain individuals not respecting general human rights of other players. From Black Members being called the N-Word, A trans member being discriminated against and other slurs being flung. Those always resulted in permanent bans, but its still something we don't wanna see in the SLE. And lastly, some people have been harassing me in DM's. From death threats, unssuccessful tries to Doxx me and general negative talks about me, we had many different cases. This is on one hand really sad, since in the end I do the stuff as a hobby. Stuff like ''Hot Takes'' are often made to have people talking, but some forget its mostly just for fun. I have been open with my Depression I am struggling basically since Summer and those interactions do not help with it. I really hope that those things stop for next split, since they can be really frustrating.

The Future

And to conclude this, we will talk a bit about the future. For now the SLE goes into its Winter Break. (There will be content in the Manta Cup, a tournament were some SLE Teams and Faces play in, you can join the Discord to watch the streams or look through the plenty content) In Mid-Late January the Staff Team will work on Split 6. Applications will probably open in February, depending how quickly we fill the open spots with teams you can expect the Split 6 to start in Late February - Late March. I will (as it is right now) start with SLE Weekly when the Applications open and with Powerrankings 2-3 Weeks before the Split starts.
For now I wish everyone marry Christmas and a wonderful break.

Linus
